It is that time of the year when people say, “Where has the time gone?” When this journalling idea popped up, I thought I would give it a go.

December 1: Three positive things that have happened this year
There have been many positive things in my life this year. The first one that pops into my head is the wedding of my son. Even though it caused much stress for the bride in the lead-up, it really was a perfect day. The second thing was our trip through Western Queensland. I posted about this trip a few times, but if you would like some amazing images, you can click here or here. Lastly, the most positive thing that has happened this year is life. I made a choice last year to walk away from full-time work. 2025 has been a year of working out what my life will look like in this new phase. I still haven’t got my head around it, but enjoying things and working towards goals that aren’t work or financial are a big part of it.
December 2: Three ways that you have helped other people this year
Helping people is an integral part of my life. A cornerstone of my personal philosophy is the conviction that world change does not happen in parliaments or boardrooms but in the everyday actions of everyday people. I am painfully aware of how fortunate I am. I have a very comfortable life. So, when I see a need, I try to help as much as possible.
In February we became aware of a young person who was living in a very bad (and expensive) situation. Long story short, she has become part of our family. It has been very gratifying to watch her grow and develop into a healthier, happier and more capable young woman
A little before that, I started volunteering for a charity that recycles textiles and craft supplies by re-selling and making them into products for charities to use. I have enjoyed several aspects of this work, including sorting through donations, and sewing various items to donate.
I got stuck on this one for a while, but I realise that we all help each other in small ways every day. Listening to rants about work colleagues, making dinner when your partner is too tired, lending stuff, sharing food. So many little acts of kindness every day.
