After a decade of building and growing this site alongside you, I wanted to sit down and share some big news. We’ve officially migrated to a brand-new, high-performance server environment — what we’re calling our “Super Server.” This move marks the end of a long relationship with HostGator, and I’m not going to sugarcoat it: we’re leaving completely disgusted with their service.

Ten Years with HostGator: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

When we started this website back in 2014, HostGator was one of the go-to  dedicated hosting providers. They were affordable, had decent marketing, and for the early days, they got the job done. We stuck with them through thick and thin — through site growth, traffic spikes, redesigns, and countless plugin and theme updates.

But over the last several years, things steadily went downhill.

Performance became inconsistent at best. Page load times crept up. During any traffic surge (even moderate ones), the server would struggle, leading to slow loading or outright timeouts. We saw repeated complaints from readers about sluggish experience, especially on mobile.

Downtime became far too common. We experienced multiple outages that lasted hours — some even stretching into a full day and more recently 5 days!!  Each time we reached out for support, the responses were slow, scripted, and rarely resolved the root issues. We’d get the classic “we’re experiencing high load of customers” excuse, followed by suggestions to just “sit and wait” for problems to resolve.

Customer service hit rock bottom. Long wait times on chat and phone, agents who seemed untrained on technical issues, and promises that were never followed through. We felt like just another ticket number instead of a long-term customer who had paid them thousands of dollars over the years.

We tried to make it work. We optimized our WordPress site heavily — caching plugins, CDN, database tuning, image optimization — you name it. But at the end of the day, the foundation (the hosting) was crumbling. We couldn’t keep asking our readers to deal with a subpar experience.

The Migration to Our New Super Server

Last week,  we made the decision: enough is enough. We began researching premium hosting solutions that could actually handle modern WordPress demands. After extensive testing and benchmarks, we chose a high-end dedicated server environment built for speed and reliability.

The difference has been night and day.

Our new server is an absolute beast:

  • Blazing-fast processors with multiple high-core CPUs
  • Generous RAM allocation that keeps everything snappy even under load
  • NVMe SSD storage for lightning-quick database queries and file access
  • Enterprise-grade network with massive bandwidth and DDoS protection
  • Optimized server stack (latest PHP, MariaDB, Nginx/Apache hybrid, Redis object caching, etc.)

Since the migration, average page load times have dropped dramatically — often by 60-80% depending on the page. Backend admin area is buttery smooth. Search engine crawling is faster. Everything just feels better.

We’ve also implemented better redundancy, automated backups, and proactive monitoring. The stability we’re seeing now is something we haven’t experienced in years.

What This Means for You, Our Readers

This isn’t just about us bragging about new hardware. It’s about delivering the experience you deserve.

  • Faster loading pages — You’ll spend less time waiting and more time reading, watching, or engaging with content.
  • Better reliability — Fewer frustrating “site down” moments.
  • Improved mobile experience — Especially important as more of you browse on phones.
  • Future-proofing — We can now handle bigger traffic spikes, more media-rich content, and new features without worrying about the server buckling.

If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ve probably noticed some hiccups during the migration process. Moving a large WordPress site with years of posts, images, plugins, and database entries isn’t trivial. There were a few rough patches — temporary downtime, some caching weirdness, and minor data glitches on certain pages.

A Sincere Apology

To every one of you who hit a 500 error, saw broken images, or couldn’t access content in the last few weeks: I’m truly sorry.

We knew the migration wouldn’t be completely seamless, but we underestimated how disruptive some of the issues would be. Your time and trust are valuable, and we hate that we wasted any of it. The team has been working around the clock to clean up the remaining issues, and as of now the site is running smoother than ever.

Thank you for sticking with us through the transition. Your patience and continued support mean the world.

Here’s to the Next Chapter

We’re incredibly excited about what’s possible now that we’re no longer held back by outdated shared hosting. Expect more consistent performance, faster updates, richer content, and a generally better experience across the board.

This site has always been about delivering value to you — our community. With our new Super Server powering things behind the scenes, we’re more committed than ever to that mission.

If you notice anything still off, please don’t hesitate to reach out via the contact form. We’re monitoring everything closely and want to hear from you.

Here’s to faster loads, fewer errors, and many more years of great content together.

Thank you again for being part of this journey.
