Ruth and Marvin wed as a conventional vanilla couple. Over time that changed.

Marvin has too many bad habits. Most of them rooted in laziness. He does not like to pick up after himself. After work, he prefers to watch television instead of working on household projects or being otherwise useful.

He is prone to waste money on trivial things, forgetting about paying utilities, insurance and mortgage.

He drinks too much beer. Perhaps beer is the source of his feckless behavior. He is not a bad husband. Neither is he a good one.

The preceding sentences should be in the past tense.

After a few months, Ruth realized her husband needed ‘fixing.’ She would sit Marvin down and have sensible talks with him. Marvin promised to reform.

No reformation followed.

Ruth’s amicable talks became lectures. Marvin always agreed and repented. He never changed.

Ruth became increasingly angry. She did not want a child for a husband. It was surely thinking of Marvin as a misbehaving brat that caused her to grab his ear. Always passive, Marvin did not complain of the pain. He would apologize. Improved behavior never followed his apologies.

His wife thought of divorce. He was an unsatisfactory husband. Perhaps pride held her back. She did not want to have a failed marriage. Maybe she would leave Marvin. Before filing papers, Ruth decided to try one more thing.

Marvin’s passive ways aided her. He may have thought by not fighting, she would always forgive him.

Ruth grabbed his earlobe. Holding on she led him to the bedroom. She grabbed the big paddle on the bed and began spanking Marvin. Her husband did not know how to cope. Whether it was muscles or determination, he could not escape his wife’s grip.

Now when he did something that annoyed her, Ruth grabbed the paddle and spanked her husband to tears.

Marvin’s passivity made him a natural subhubby.

Obeying his wife’s wishes ended pain.

Ruth made him give up beer.

She devised a schedule to govern Marvin’s free time. Tasks and chores occupy part of every evening and weekend.

Marvin even has time set aside for watching television. That the programs are all Ruth’s favorites might be a coincidence.

At least once a week Ruth grabs Marvin’s ear. She gives him a stern lecture, then a paddling. She likes to keep his maintenance discipline a surprise.

Like many men, his wife’s discipline has made him a better man.
